The ICQ Podcast is an international show consisting of two teams of presenters organized around the core father-and-son publishers of Martin (M1MRB & W9ICQ) and Colin (M6BOY) Butler. It is published by Silverspring Publishing in Mooncoin, Ireland under a Creative Commons 4.0 International License. In addition to the website, each episode is available on several podcast distributors, including TuneIn, iHeartRadio, iTunes, and through the ICQ Podcast Youtube Channel. Although the podcast is audio-only, the team publishes video versions from time to time where appropriate, usually a special event, hamfest, or interview.
Now in it’s thirteenth year, this podcast has published every two weeks during that period. It’s changed formats slightly over the years but the engagement of the various Presenters with one another reflects the tenor of what amateur radio operators have called for a century “reading the mail.” The slogan guiding the ICQ Podcast is, By amateurs, For Amateurs.
I’m honored to serve as a Presenter on one of the teams at this podcast. It’s my second stint as I was the U.S. Correspondent for some time, producing my own segment from across the pond and uploading the completed audio file to Colin at his ftp site. My job then as Editor-in-Chief at Springer Media in The Netherlands took me away from that fortnightly assignment. I returned at Martin’s request a few years ago after retiring from Springer. The new format in which I appear once a month allows me to do other features on amateur radio whether for the podcast or my blog at k4fmh.com or, now, this new website.
If you’re not already a regular listener, please check out an episode. You can find it at the relevant links on social media but you can also always listen to each show at the podcast’s website. As I like to say, Come for a moment. Stay for an hour. I CQ. Do you?
