For those readers who like data viz tools, here’s a 3D scatter plot of the Sherwood Receive Test results with market entry price and eHam rating. I used the Sherwood Performance Index (SPI) that I created as a weighted composite of all nine of his tests as the Y-Axis. The market entry price in 2021 USD is included as the X-Axis and the eHam average rating is the Z-Axis. The viewer should take a moment to study the “tool” buttons in the top right of the graphic. Simply place your cursor over the graph and click. The buttons will appear. I recommend starting with a “turntable view” rather than an orbital view (unless you’re a certified fighter pilot!) You can zoom in or out but change that action as desired. Hovering the cursor very near a point will yield a popup with the rig name. They are color-scaled from earliest to latest year upon market entry. Clicking the house icon will reset everything back to the initial view.
Have fun but don’t get too dizzy spinning the cube! You can always click the house symbol to reset the cube if you get “lost”. If you want a pic of your graph, there is a tool to download it in PNG format.
This alternative chart is an alternate way to display three dimensions of the data. The SPI is the Y-Axis with Price in 2021 $ is the X-Axis. The 3rd dimension uses a color scale to illustrate the eHam rating for each rig in the chart. In addition, I’ve added a slider tool on the bottom so you can move it to select vertical segments of the price data. You can also click on a rig and it is “selected,” dimming the other points until you click the rig again. Finally, the tools that appear at the top right of the chart are also available in this Bubble Chart.
